A Naming Ceremony is an event that is performed at birth, after the umbilical cord has fallen off, in youth or even as an adult is given a name(s).

Some Ceremonies can be religious or cultural. The purpose of a naming ceremony is to present the new individual to the community. It ensures that the child is part of something greater and places the child under the protection of those present. Parents may even appoint Guardians for their child.

★ A wiccaning/Saining ritual welcomes a newborn into the "world family," providing protection for the infant as he or she grows in the material world. A wiccaning ceremony can be done soon after the child is born or can occur later in the year.
